Vaginal pain may be caused by radioactive injury and requires prompt access to a hospital. The principles of management of radiation injury are to actively treat the wound, prevent and reduce infection and promote healing.
For minor injuries, conservative treatment is the mainstay. Local symptomatic treatment is given, while avoiding mechanical stimuli such as friction and scratching, avoiding ultraviolet and far-infrared radiation, and prohibiting the use of highly stimulating drugs. In severe cases, surgical treatment may be considered.
