What is the cause of vaginal pain?

Vaginal pain can be caused by a variety of factors, such as local inflammation of the vagina, injury to the vulva or vagina, oestrogen deficiency, and irrational concepts of sexual intercourse. Injuries to the vulva and vagina mostly occur during childbirth, but also due to direct trauma, sexual intercourse, and injuries caused by medication. Painful intercourse can be caused by organic lesions, but is more often due to psychological factors.
