How many days does it take to recover from suppurative otitis media?

With aggressive and effective treatment, suppurative otitis media can usually be brought under control in about 1 week. Suppurative otitis media is a purulent inflammation of the mucous membrane of the middle ear, which occurs in children. It mainly manifests as stuffy ears with tinnitus, hearing loss, pus flowing from the external ear canal, and can even lead to perforation of the tympanic membrane, and requires active anti-inflammatory and pro-discharge treatment with cephalosporins, penicillin antibiotics or azithromycin, and if necessary, bacterial culture of ear canal secretions to help select effective antibiotics. If there is more pus in the external ear canal, repeated flushing with hydrogen peroxide, saline, iodophor, etc. and ear bath treatment with ear drops with anti-inflammatory effects such as levofloxacin ear drops and lomefloxacin hydrochloride ear drops can be used to control the inflammation by adhering to the medication for about 1 week. However, it is easy to relapse and may even lead to perforation of the eardrum, which needs to be considered for surgical repair treatment. Patients with suppurative otitis media should pay attention to rest and keep their bowels open, and those with severe systemic symptoms should be given supportive treatment such as rehydration.
