How long does it usually take to recover from food poisoning?

How long it takes to recover from food poisoning is mainly related to the type of food poisoning and the severity of the patient’s condition, and cannot be generalized. In the case of mild food poisoning, patients only show gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, mild abdominal pain and diarrhea, which usually do not require special treatment and can be treated by drinking more water to help excretion, and can gradually get better in 2-3 days. In the case of moderate food poisoning, especially infectious food poisoning caused by bacterial contamination, antibiotic treatment is required according to the patient’s specific condition, and the prognosis is relatively long, usually taking about 1 week. Severely ill patients with food poisoning will show symptoms such as dehydration and shock, and need timely comprehensive treatment such as gastric lavage, infusion to promote excretion and stabilization of the internal environment, which can take up to 1 month or even longer. Patients with food poisoning should have a light, liquid or semi-liquid diet, avoid greasy and stimulating foods to avoid increasing the burden on the gastrointestinal tract, and always have light salt water and mung bean soup for later conditioning.
