Usually, how long a patient can live with advanced tuberculosis depends on the severity of the disease and the patient’s physical condition, and cannot be generalized. If a patient has advanced tuberculosis, but the disease is not very serious, with diffuse exudation, hyperplasia, calcification and other pathological changes in the lung tissue, and the patient’s own resistance is strong enough to continue to choose the combination of anti-tuberculosis drugs and adjust the treatment plan, the patient can generally achieve control of the disease and reach the same life cycle as normal healthy people. If the patient develops diffuse pulmonary fibrosis causing a decline in lung function, or even secondary infection with extra-pulmonary TB lesions and multi-drug resistant TB, treatment is very difficult at this point and will likely lead to respiratory failure, multi-organ failure, and the patient’s life expectancy may be about 6-12 months. Patients with advanced tuberculosis must follow medical advice, take regular and periodic medication, pay attention to a balanced diet, wear a mask, and maintain a positive and optimistic attitude, which is beneficial to recovery.
