What is double eyelid

  I. What are heavy eyelids (double eyelids)?
Heavy eyelids are the opposite of single eyelids. Single eyelids are smooth upper eyelids without a horizontal fold when the eyes are open, commonly known as monolids. In the case of heavy eyelids, the upper eyelid skin has a horizontal skin fold above the lid margin, and the skin below this fold moves upward and medially when the eyes are open, commonly known as double eyelids.

Commonly used procedures and their advantages and disadvantages.
The two main methods are the buried wire method and the incision method
  1.Buried wire method.
It is a method that uses a small incision to bury sutures under the skin. It is suitable for young people with little orbital fat and thin, tight skin on the upper eyelid, for those who have a single lid on one side, or for those who have an occasional heavy lid, or for those who have a partially shallow or absent heavy lid crease after blepharoplasty.
  2. Incision method.
Suitable for eye shapes such as thick eyelids, swollen eyeballs, and triangular eyes.
For people with lax upper eyelid skin, bloated upper eyelids, triangular eyes and canthus, the incision method is the most effective way to perform blepharoplasty. However, the incision method is relatively more complicated and the swelling time is relatively longer, with the stitches removed in about a week and the swelling basically disappearing in two or three weeks, with a complete return to normal in 3-6 months.
  Precautions before surgery.
1.Do not take drugs containing aspirin within two weeks before surgery, because aspirin will increase intraoperative bleeding.
  2. Patients with high blood pressure and diabetes should inform the doctor of their condition at the initial consultation so that the doctor can confirm the surgical plan.
  3. Make sure that you are in good health and free of infectious diseases or other inflammatory diseases before surgery.
  4. Women should avoid menstrual period.
  IV. Post-operative precautions.
1.Avoid getting water on the surgical site for one week after surgery.
2.Ensure that the surgical site is clean.
3, avoid eating irritating food such as chili peppers.
4, strictly comply with the doctor’s orders to take medication and follow-up.
  Related knowledge.
  1. What kind of people are suitable for blepharoplasty.
Anyone who is in good health, mentally normal, has a single eyelid who is actively requesting surgery and has no contraindications, or who has loose eyelid skin is suitable for surgery.
  2. What kind of eyes are not suitable for blepharoplasty?
Those with an already wide eye fissure, short round eyes, prominent eyes, strabismus, ptosis, post-implantation of the upper lid, patients with facial palsy, mental abnormalities, peculiar aesthetic views, and unrealistic high demands are not suitable for surgery.
  3. Aesthetic, morphological and anatomical differences between double eyelids and single eyelids.
In people’s perception, the difference between double eyelids and single eyelids is obvious. In fact, there are aesthetic differences, morphological differences and anatomical differences between the two.
In humans, single and heavy eyelids are genetically related and generally remain the same throughout life. However, there are a few individuals who change with age. In some cases, the single lid gradually changes to a heavy lid as we age into adulthood; in others, the eyelid skin loosens and sags as we age, obscuring the original heavy lid crease and giving the appearance of a single lid. In humans, the upper eyelids are generally symmetrical, but in about 2.85%-8.89% of people, the upper eyelid pattern is significantly different, with one side having a single lid and the other a heavy lid. In the Oriental population, both single and heavy lids are normal from a physiological point of view.
However, from an aesthetic point of view, single lids tend to give the impression of small, “unattractive” eyes. Functionally, they are not as emotionally expressive and revealing as heavy eyelids. Therefore, in addition to adding beauty, blepharoplasty also has some functional significance, which is the main reason for its popularity.
In single-lid patients, the skin is thicker, the subcutaneous tissue is more developed, the orbicularis oculi is more developed, and there is more fat behind the orbicularis oculi; in single-lid patients, the lid is thin and narrow, and the muscle that opens the eye, the levator, is not developed; in heavy-lid patients, the opposite is true. In monolids, the orbital septum is low and orbital fat may prolapse over the upper edge of the lid or in front of the lid, whereas in heavy lids, the orbital septum is higher and no orbital fat prolapses over the upper edge of the lid or in front of the lid.
The difference between single and heavy eyelids is that blepharoplasty is a method of surgically modifying and reorganizing the anatomy of a single lid based on aesthetic principles and finally shaping it into a heavy eyelid form.
