Chances of cure for drug-resistant tuberculosis

The cure rate for primary TB is usually higher, but if patients are not compliant with treatment and do not take anti-TB drugs regularly, they often develop drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which leads to drug-resistant TB. Treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis is relatively difficult and lengthy, and the cure rate is significantly lower than that of primary care tuberculosis. The current global cure rate for drug-resistant TB is 40%-50%, depending on the patient’s physical condition, severity of disease, and degree of drug resistance. If the patient’s general condition is poor and drug resistance is severe, treatment is usually more difficult, the treatment course is longer, and the chances of cure are lower. If the patient is more compliant in the treatment process and responds better to the combination of multiple drugs, the cure rate will often increase, generally reaching 60-70%.
