Principles of treatment of endometriosis

The treatment of endometriosis should be considered comprehensively according to the patient’s age, symptoms, location and extent of lesions, and requirements for fertility. First, those with mild lesions, asymptomatic or mild symptoms can usually be followed up once every few months. Those with a history of mild pain during menstruation are given symptomatic treatment with prostaglandin inhibitors. Secondly, patients who wish to have children should undergo various tests for infertility. Third, patients with mild cases should be treated with medication first. Fourthly, for severe patients with fertility requirements, fertility preservation surgery should be performed. Fifth, for young patients with severe cases without fertility requirements, surgery to preserve ovarian function should be performed, followed by sex hormone consolidation therapy. Sixth, for older patients with severe disease who do not have fertility requirements, radical surgery should be considered.
