Because of the many objects of phobia fears, they are divided into three main categories, depending on their object.
Place phobia: manifests itself as a fear of certain specific places such as confined places, open places, and gathering places, where the patient feels fearful because the place has no exit and the patient does not feel safe.
Social phobia: Avoidance of social situations due to the patient’s fear of being scrutinised and fear of embarrassing behaviour, which in severe cases can develop into the extreme case of social isolation.
Monophobia: The patient’s irrational fear of a specific object, animal, or natural phenomenon such as wind or electricity.
