Tumor shrinkage after chemotherapy but elevated markers do not necessarily mean that chemotherapy is ineffective, it may be transient elevation, patients should be further examined to exclude metastatic recurrence. Tumor marker elevation after chemotherapy is generally seen in two cases, chemotherapy is ineffective or tumor marker is transiently elevated, because the patient’s tumor shrinks after chemotherapy, chemotherapy is not considered ineffective for the time being, and the chemotherapy regimen can be left unchanged for the time being. Tumor marker elevation may be a result of the necrosis of a large number of cancer cells, and the tumor markers are transiently released into the bloodstream, and the patient should be examined further for the reasons of the elevation. After further examination, if there is no abnormality, the patient can be observed, and the transient elevation can be gradually decreased after 1 to 2 months, and the patient should undergo regular review to prevent tumor recurrence and metastasis.
