When a patient finds himself or herself or the child’s parents notice a blue sclera, the first step is to visit an ophthalmologist to determine if it is due to an ophthalmic condition. If ophthalmologic disease is ruled out, a paediatric or internal medicine visit should be made on the advice of the ophthalmologist to further clarify the diagnosis and treat it aggressively.
