How soon can you go down with a patella fracture

Patellar fractures generally take about 4-6 weeks before they are ready to walk with weight on the ground. However, this varies depending on the treatment plan, how quickly the fracture heals, and how well the joint moves. If the treatment is conservative, i.e., fixed with a cast or brace, it usually takes about 4-6 weeks, and if the review shows that the fracture is completely healed, you can walk semi-weight-bearing with crutches and return to normal in about 1 month. If surgical treatment is taken, that is, incision and internal fixation, the fractured patella will be fixed internally, and the knee will be able to bend and move in bed on the first day after surgery. Some patients may have delayed healing or non-healing of the fracture. If the fracture is delayed, the patient will need to go to the hospital regularly (2-3 weeks) to review the radiographs and walk in bed after the fracture has healed; if the fracture does not heal, surgery may be needed again.
