The gallbladder is an organ of the human body, and whether or not removal of the gallbladder will cause bowel cancer is limited to partial studies. There is no long-term, large sample data to prove whether or not there is an absolute relationship between the two, i.e., whether or not removal of the gallbladder can cause bowel cancer is not yet clear. It is currently thought that gallbladder removal may increase the incidence of bowel cancer, but the chances are very small. Patients should not refrain from undergoing cholecystectomy because of the possibility of increased bowel cancer, as there is also a combination of other tumors or other conditions that may be caused by not having cholecystectomy, such as whether there is an increased incidence of gallbladder cancer.
