The number of years of life after successful gamma knife depends on the type of tumor, the degree of malignancy, the location and size of the tumor, and whether the tumor recurs after surgery. Gamma knife is based on the principle of stereometric orientation, the intracranial lesion tissue is selectively identified as the target, using cobalt-60 generated gamma rays to focus irradiation in large doses to produce focal necrosis to achieve the purpose of treatment of tumors. Some malignant tumors have the possibility of recurrence after a single gamma knife treatment, such as grade III or higher brain tumors. Some benign tumors have a low recurrence rate and are more sensitive to postoperative radiotherapy, so life expectancy may not be affected by the tumor or surgery. Therefore, the successful survival of Gamma Knife for several years is closely related to the tumor type, patient’s physical condition and patient’s long-term survival environment.
