I. Concept of cough disease:
Cough is a condition in which the lung system is affected by evil, the lung is not purified, and the lung is unclear, with coughing and sputum production as the main symptoms. It is mostly seen in acute and chronic bronchitis and pneumonia.
Etiology: The causes of cough include external sensation and internal injury.
1. External sensation: The six external evil spirits attack the lung system. Mostly because the lung’s external function is diminished or dysfunctional, so that when the weather is hot or cold and the climate changes abnormally, the six externally induced evils either enter through the mouth and nose or are received through the skin and hair. It is the real evil.
2, internal injury is always caused by the dysfunction of the internal organs, internal evil dry lung. Can be divided into it visceral lesions involving the lungs and the lungs from the two types of disease. Most of the coughs are due to both evil and positive deficiency.
Regardless of whether the cough is due to external sensation or internal injury, it is caused by the lung system being diseased and the lung qi reverting upward.

Treatment is to remove wind and clear lung, moisten dryness and stop cough.

(II) Cough with internal injury
1. Cough with repeated attacks of phlegm and dampness in the lung: coughing with heavy, sticky, white or grayish phlegm, aggravated by eating sweet and greasy food, coughing with chest tightness, abdominal gangrene, body fatigue, loose stools, white and greasy tongue coating and slippery pulse.
The treatment is to strengthen the spleen and dry dampness, resolve phlegm and stop cough. The formula is Er Chen Tang with the following addition and subtraction

2.Phlegm-heat stagnation of lung: cough with shortness of breath, phlegm in the throat, thick yellow phlegm, unpleasant coughing and vomiting, or with hot fishy smell, chest fullness and pain, body heat, dry mouth and desire to drink, thin yellowish greasy tongue coating, red texture, smooth pulse.
The treatment is to clear heat, resolve phlegm and purge the lung, with the following formula: Qing Jin Hua Phlegm Tang plus reduction.

The treatment is to nourish Yin and moisten the lung, stop cough and resolve phlegm. The formula is Sha Shen Mai Dong Tang with reduction.

IV. Other.
