How long can you live with pulmonary fibrosis?

The survival time of patients with pulmonary fibrosis is related to the degree of pulmonary fibrosis, the presence or absence of complications and whether effective measures are taken to treat them, and therefore varies from patient to patient. Pulmonary fibrosis refers to the process of tissue recovery following interstitial changes in the lung caused by various diseases or destruction of the lung parenchyma. Patients with pulmonary fibrosis have severely impaired pulmonary ventilation, mainly manifested by progressive dyspnea, chest tightness, and hypoxemia, etc. There are no specific medications for treatment, only symptomatic treatment. Patients with mild pulmonary fibrosis should avoid harmful factors in time and treat symptomatically so that pulmonary fibrosis does not continue to progress. If patients develop severe hypoxic symptoms in the later stages and can only rely on machines to maintain the oxygen concentration in their bodies, their average survival time is 2-3 years. In conclusion, patients with pulmonary fibrosis should be treated actively, be psychologically prepared for long-term treatment, quit smoking and drinking, and avoid colds, which may aggravate hypoxic symptoms.
