How long does it take for a comminuted ankle fracture to heal?

A comminuted fracture of the ankle takes about 3-6 months to heal completely. Under normal circumstances, a comminuted fracture of the ankle requires surgical treatment, which begins the day after surgery with passive movement of the ankle joint to prevent joint adhesions and stiffness. After the surgery, the muscles of both lower limbs should be actively exercised to prevent muscle atrophy and deep vein thrombosis, and the stitches should be removed in about 2 weeks after the surgery. After the crutches, if the ankle joint is moving well and the fracture is healing well on review x-rays, you can start to lose the crutches and start to move and walk actively in about 2.5 months. It takes about 2-3 months for the ankle joint to function well and the overall duration of the disease is about 3-6 months.
