Diabetic patients can take Atorvastatin Calcium Tablets if their condition requires it and there are no contraindications.
Atorvastatin is a kind of lipid-lowering drug, with the effect of lowering blood lipids and stabilizing plaque, suitable for patients with hypercholesterolemia and coronary heart disease. Diabetic patients, who are at high risk of coronary heart disease and often combined with hypercholesterolemia as well, are allowed to take atorvastatin as prescribed by their doctor.
Adverse effects of atorvastatin include rhabdomyolysis with myopathy, and liver enzyme abnormalities. Contraindications include active liver disease, known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients in the product, and pregnant and lactating women. Regular monitoring of muscle enzymes and liver function is required while taking the drug.
Atorvastatin should be taken under the supervision of a physician and should not be taken on its own.
