When corneal inflammation causes corneal ulcers, the healing of the ulcers can result in scarring of varying thicknesses, depending on the depth of the ulcer: corneal clouding, corneal opacification and corneal blepharospasm, which can have a progressively more severe impact on vision. When corneal inflammation becomes too severe and the ulcer fails to heal, it can lead to corneal perforation or endophthalmitis, which can result in blindness or failure to preserve the eye.
