There is no problem if the umbilical cord is found to be wrapped around the baby’s neck during the prenatal ultrasound. One loop of the umbilical cord is often found in ultrasound nowadays. However, if the umbilical cord is wrapped around the neck twice or even more than two times, it is important to be alert. If the number of wraps is too many, it is likely that the baby will be deprived of oxygen in the uterine cavity, and long-term oxygen deprivation may cause fetal death in the end. The doctor will tell the pregnant woman to count the fetal movements. If the number of circumference is more, you must count the fetal movement closely, and prenatal checkups should be done regularly. Once the fetal heartbeat is found to be abnormal, or if fetal heart monitoring is done in the late pregnancy and intrauterine hypoxia is detected, it should be actively treated. If the umbilical cord is wrapped around the neck two or more times, the obstetrician will recommend a cesarean section when the baby is due to be delivered. Because of the large number of wraps around the umbilical cord, there is a high risk of stillbirth during the vaginal delivery.
