Summarize the treatment options for bowel cancer

In the early stage of bowel cancer, blood loss is the main cause, followed by change in stool habit, incomplete bowel movement, urgency and heaviness. Most of the patients are above 40 years old, and about 15% of them are under 30 years old. Patients must pay attention to timely examination and treatment in professional hospitals for unexplained wasting, weakness and loss of appetite. Here are the treatment methods for colon cancer 1.Surgery to remove tumor Surgery is the preferred treatment method for intestinal cancer, and the surgical methods include: left hemicolectomy, right hemicolectomy, transabdominal perineal rectal cancer resection and so on. In recent years, due to the improvement of surgical instruments, for low and ultra-low rectal cancer, anastomosis can also be used for surgery if the disease is early. For patients with early-stage tumors, minimally invasive surgery, i.e. laparoscopic surgery, is appropriate. This method allows a clearer view of the intra-abdominal situation and nerve lines in the pelvis and minimizes damage to other organs. Therefore, laparoscopic rectal cancer surgery is widely recognized for its safety, feasibility and minimally invasive nature, and is the best proven method for treating colon and rectal cancer. For patients with advanced rectal cancer, combined visceral resection, total pelvic and hemipelvic visceral resection are used while minimizing surgical trauma, so that patients with advanced disease can obtain more space for survival. However, bowel cancer surgery will cause damage to tissues and qi and blood depletion in the patient’s body, making the patient physically weak, which will easily lead to recurrence of cancer, spread and metastasis of cancer cells. Therefore, after bowel cancer surgery, the treatment should be combined with traditional Chinese medicine in time to support and strengthen the root, improve the patient’s diet and sleep condition, and enhance the patient’s physique, which has a positive effect on preventing the recurrence and metastasis of bowel cancer. 2.Chemotherapy for intestinal cancer As about 30%-40% of colorectal cancer patients have metastasis when they are diagnosed, and 50% of them have recurrence after surgery even in the early stage. Therefore, it is very difficult to improve the treatment effect by surgical techniques alone. Systemic chemotherapy is the main means of postoperative adjuvant treatment for early and mid-stage colorectal cancer as well as palliative treatment for advanced colorectal cancer. However, there are serious shortcomings of chemotherapy such as indistinguishable enemies, very close to effective and toxic doses, toxic side effects, among which reactions such as impaired digestive function and suppression of bone marrow hematopoietic function are the most obvious, which often make it difficult for intestinal cancer patients to receive chemotherapy or unable to insist on completing the whole course of treatment due to severe reactions. Chinese medicine treatments such as strengthening spleen and stomach, benefiting Qi and blood, and tonifying liver and kidney should be combined with chemotherapy at the same time and after chemotherapy, which can better alleviate chemotherapy reactions and help chemotherapy proceed smoothly. 3.Radiation therapy for bowel cancer For advanced tumor patients whose tumors are found late and have large invasive range, surgery is difficult to achieve therapeutic effect, radiotherapy can be used instead of surgery to shrink cancer lesions to improve symptoms and relieve obstruction. Radiotherapy for bowel cancer also has obvious radiotherapy reactions, which make many patients have to interrupt radiotherapy. It is also necessary to cooperate with Chinese medicine treatment such as tonifying qi and blood during and after radiotherapy, which has better effect on enhancing the number of white blood cells and immune function, so as to ensure the smooth implementation of radiotherapy. 4.Interventional treatment For the treatment effect that cannot be achieved by surgery when there is liver metastasis or combined with intractable gastrointestinal bleeding, interventional treatment can be carried out. Interventional treatment can make up for the shortage of surgical treatment, radiotherapy and chemotherapy in the middle and late stage of bowel cancer. Surgery can certainly remove the cancer, but there are still residual cancer, or regional lymph node metastasis, or cancer embolism in blood vessels, etc., so long-term treatment with TCM after surgery can prevent recurrence and metastasis; radiotherapy and chemotherapy have considerable side effects on the digestive tract and hematopoietic system, so treatment with TCM can not only reduce the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but also strengthen the effect of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, so for patients with advanced cancer or those who cannot undergo surgery and radiotherapy and chemotherapy, TCM can be used. For advanced cancer patients or those who cannot undergo surgery or radiotherapy or chemotherapy, Chinese herbal medicine can be used.
