Is blood uric acid 440 μmol/L normal in men?

A blood uric acid of 440µmol/L above the normal range in men is abnormal. Hyperuricemia is diagnosed by two fasting blood uric acid levels >420µmol/L on non-same day with daily diet. In men, blood uric acid 440µmol/L is on the high side and therefore abnormal. Elevated blood uric acid can be caused by glomerular filtration impairment, hereditary enzyme defects, excessive meat and alcohol intake, and chronic lead poisoning. Blood uric acid levels can generally be controlled by limiting alcohol consumption and intake of high-purine foods such as pork liver, regular exercise, drinking plenty of water and other non-pharmacological treatments, as well as medications such as allopurinol. Patients with elevated uric acid are advised to go to the rheumatology and immunology departments of regular hospitals in time to consult with specialists and follow the doctor’s instructions to choose the appropriate treatment.
