A positive HIV test is not necessarily an HIV infection, and false positives can occur. False positives may be related to the process of operation, individual differences, quality of reagents, medications taken and pregnancy. If you have a history of high-risk exposure and you have tested positive with test strips at home, it is recommended that you consult a local tertiary care hospital or the CDC to have your blood tested again. If the HIV antibody test is positive, the diagnosis can be further confirmed.
