Treatment of umbilical hernia in infants and children

Patient Question: Hello doctor! My baby is now over 60 days old, and this is a picture of him, he had a slightly protruding belly button when he was over 40 days old, and now it looks more protruding. Do I need to use an umbilical hernia belt for this? Response from the pediatrician: Hello. First of all, umbilical hernia is a common and self-limiting condition. Most children heal on their own at six months and the vast majority by one year of age. So we advocate conservative treatment at this stage. The umbilical hernia belt is indeed a common treatment method, the main purpose of which is to prevent the intestinal canal in the umbilical hernia, and at the same time to reduce the tension of the abdominal wall and promote the healing of the umbilical hernia. It should be noted that it needs to be untied regularly in the morning, at midday and at night to check for allergies or frictional damage to the skin.
