How soon can I be discharged from the hospital after colon cancer surgery

Patients can be discharged from the hospital about 7-10 days after colon cancer surgery. For colon cancer surgery, laparoscopic radical colon cancer surgery is mainly performed, including right hemicolectomy, left hemicolectomy, sigmoid colon and so on. During the surgery, a section of intestinal canal is removed and lymph node dissection is also required. After the dissection, the two ends of the intestinal canal need to be sutured together, so after the surgery, the patient needs to be observed for changes in abdominal pain, abdominal drainage, and the healing of the anastomosis. Generally, the anastomosis will heal in about 7 days, and the patient can gradually resume the diet, including drinking rice soup, thin rice, or eating a liquid or semi-liquid diet, etc. In about 7 days after the surgery, the patient can remove the surface sutures and basically wait until about 10 days to be successfully discharged from the hospital.
