What is aortic dissection type a

Aortic coarctation type A refers to an endothelial tear located in the ascending aorta and can be treated by emergency vascular surgery. Aortic coarctation means that blood in the lumen of the aortic vessel passes from the site of the intima-media tear into the meso-aorta, which produces a greater degree of tearing due to the pressure, leaving the wall of the aorta in a state of separation of the true and false chambers. Clinically, the Stanford classification would include two types, A and B. Type A refers to a type of aortic dissection in which the intimal tear is located in the ascending aorta. The tear and resulting entry of blood into the intima can extend beyond the arch of the aorta and even into the abdominal aorta/iliac arteries. The condition of aortic coarctation is extremely dangerous and the mortality rate is high. The mortality rate of untreated patients can reach 65%~70% (within 1 day~2 weeks), therefore, once the diagnosis of aortic coarctation type A is confirmed, surgical treatments (ascending aortic replacement, Bentall’s surgery, Sun’s surgery, etc.) or endoluminal interventions should be carried out immediately.
