Clinical medicine is centered on treating diseases, while rehabilitation medicine is led by improving functions. It mainly includes people with functional impairment caused by various reasons and the elderly population. The development of rehabilitation medicine is the demand of the society and patients; the demand of the aging population and chronic diseases; the increase of the number of disabilities caused by work-related injuries and car accidents; the injuries and disabilities caused by dangerous activities such as gymnastics, diving, racing and acrobatics; and the large number of disabilities caused by natural disasters and wars all require rehabilitation treatment. The goal of rehabilitation is to improve physical, mental, social, and occupational functioning so that people with disabilities can lead an active working life in some sense like normal people. Where possible, the disabled person is enabled to live a self-sufficient life, return to society, work and be economically independent.
