In clinical work, we often encounter the situation that even though patients are told that they should return to the hospital in time for a review after nasal endoscopy, many patients still fail to come. The reason for this may be that patients do not understand the necessity of post-nasal endoscopic review, and today I would like to communicate with patients about this issue. Nasal disease has its own peculiarities, it is not like appendicitis, where the appendix is cut out and you can rest easy. Most nasal diseases have one characteristic: they are prone to recurrence. How to reduce the recurrence rate of nasal diseases has always been the goal of rhinologists. Currently, under the premise of using the minimally invasive technology of nasal endoscopy to treat nasal diseases, insisting on postoperative review has a great impact on reducing the probability of recurrence. Nasal disease is not completely cured after the surgery is completed. The recovery of the nasal mucosa after surgery usually takes about six months. During this time, the nasal mucosa can develop common phenomena such as edema, vesicles and granulation, and these problems can continue to interfere with the recovery of the nasal mucosa in the operative cavity. If these problems are not cleared in a timely manner, the nasal mucosa will not return to normal for a long time, which can lead to the reoccurrence of nasal disease. Therefore, regular postoperative review is very important. During the review, the doctor will promptly clear the vesicles, buds and other diseased tissues, and at the same time will instruct the patient to use medication according to the review to promote the recovery of nasal mucosa, and when the nasal mucosa is completely restored to normal, the possibility of re-occurrence of nasal disease will be greatly reduced. Patients may ask, how often should they be reviewed? Generally, the first review is 1 week after surgery, when the doctor will perform a thorough cleaning of the nasal cavity to remove nasal blood clots and scabs in order to prevent nasal adhesions and promote wound healing. Then, the review is usually done once a month for the first six months, once every 2-3 months for the second six months, and once every six months thereafter.
