Does your child have this “bad behavior”?

In our daily life, we often see some children from time to time, such as scowling, making faces, twisting the body and other abnormal movements or clearing the throat, sniffing and other abnormal vocalizations, outsiders intervention is also very difficult to control, parents tend to think that it is a “bad habit”. In fact, this is actually a mental illness, medically known as “Tourette’s syndrome”. This disease often occurs in children between the ages of 2 and 12, with boys being the most common. The main manifestations are involuntary, repetitive, rapid, purposeless motor and vocal tics in one or more parts of the body. Not only is it difficult for the general public to recognize this disease, but even the current medical profession in China is confused and often misinterprets these children’s manifestations as “bad habits” or misdiagnoses them as “conjunctivitis (manifested by repeated blinking)” based on different clinical manifestations, “Chronic pharyngitis (manifested by repeated dry coughing and throat clearing over a long period of time), myocarditis (manifested by long sighs), epilepsy, and so on. In the past, it was thought to be rare and self-healing, requiring no treatment. This is not the case, a large number of studies have confirmed that the prevalence of this disease in more than 0.05%, accounting for about 25% of pediatric mental illness, the course of the disease more than a year is difficult to self-cure, disturbing and affecting the child’s own life and learning of the people around them, for a long time can be low self-esteem or other psychiatric disorders. Therefore, early intervention should be carried out.
