In case of fever, cough and sore throat, it is recommended to follow the following process to self-assess first and decide whether to go to the hospital again.
In response to the novel pneumonia outbreak, the Beijing Municipal Health and Wellness Commission has released a self-assessment approach for fever and cough. The novel coronavirus is currently spread mainly through respiratory transmission, such as coughing and sneezing and other droplet transmission, but can also be spread through close contact. If you don’t pay attention, you may not only get sicker yourself, but you may also pass it to your family. In case of fever, cough, sore throat and other symptoms, it is recommended to follow the following process to first self-assess and decide whether to go to the hospital again.
Assessing the condition
1. a body temperature not exceeding 38°C and no obvious symptoms such as shortness of breath or breathlessness.
2. be under 60 years of age or over 5 years of age
3. not pregnant, chronically ill or obese.
If you belong to the above cases, it is recommended to rest and observe at home first. While you are at home, please drink plenty of water and take some cold medicine that can reduce the symptoms. Also, take measures to protect yourself and your family by wearing a mask, washing your hands regularly and ventilating your room.
Prompt medical consultation is recommended if.
1. the condition does not improve after 1-2 days of observation and rest at home.
2. have had recent close contact with patients with fever or cough symptoms, or have been to a crowded place, such as a farmers’ market, or have a history of wildlife contact.
3. The elderly, pregnant women, obese and those with chronic lung disease, cardiovascular disease, liver, kidney and other underlying diseases and low immune function.
On the way to the hospital, you should wear a mask, pay attention to cough etiquette and respiratory hygiene, and do not cover your mouth and nose with your hands when coughing or sneezing, but use a tissue or your elbow to cover it.
Tip: The correct way to cough and sneeze
Cover your cough and sneeze with your elbow, never with your hand.
Covering with your hands looks polite, but in fact there is a great danger behind covering with your hands. Because when suffering from respiratory infections such as influenza, the action of coughing and sneezing will release a large number of viruses, which are often counted in the tens of thousands. After the virus contaminates the hands, people often fail to wash their hands in time, and then the place where the hands touch will also be contaminated by the virus, such as door handles, elevator buttons, desktop and other object surfaces. At this point, another person’s hand touches these parts, and if they do not wash their hands, rub their eyes, pick their nose, the virus spreads through the contaminated hands.
While covering with elbows, the virus sprays on clothes and does not contaminate the surface of other objects. Therefore, it is especially important to pay attention to cough etiquette, and at the same time, not to touch your own body without washing your hands, especially the mucous membrane parts such as the mouth and nose.
