How to review breast cancer patients after surgery

Breast cancer patients should be reviewed by an oncologist on a regular basis after surgery, every 3 months for 2 to 3 years, every 6 months for 4 to 5 years, and every year thereafter, with lifelong follow-up. What are the checkups? First of all, the doctor will examine the lymph nodes on the affected side, the healthy side of the breast, the armpit, and the clavicle by palpation. Depending on the condition, some patients will also have a chest x-ray or CT, abdominal ultrasound or CT, bone scan, and hematology tests. Depending on the results of these tests, further tests may be necessary. It is also important to remind patients not to forget to bring their post-surgical pathology report, previous treatment records, CT, X-rays and laboratory reports to each follow-up appointment, and to keep them properly, carefully and for a long time.
