Dietary identification and management of bowel cancer after surgery

With the improvement of living standards, the disease spectrum has changed, and colorectal cancer has been in a continuous high incidence in Shanghai for many years. Early and mid-stage colorectal cancer patients are preferred to surgery, through which the survival time and quality of life of patients can be greatly improved. Because of different physical constitution, postoperative recovery of colon cancer patients is different, some recover well after surgery, while others have frequent diarrhea, different degrees of bleeding and constipation after surgery. Therefore, the postoperative diet is very important for the recovery of patients’ body, the recovery of immune function, and the subsequent treatment. Post-operative dietary adjustment for colon cancer is not one-size-fits-all, but should be based on the patient’s actual condition. Adhere to exercise After surgery, patients should get out of bed early according to their condition to speed up intestinal peristalsis. About one month after surgery, patients can take a walk, daily life and other activities to speed up blood circulation, improve immunity, and promote the discharge of toxins from the body as soon as possible. On the contrary, long-term bed rest after surgery can easily lead to intestinal adhesions or intestinal obstruction and other diseases. It is normal to feel abdominal pain in the early postoperative activities, and the pain will gradually disappear after persisting for a period of time. Regular defecation Patients should be encouraged to develop the habit of regular defecation, such as drinking one cup of cool boiled water early in the morning every day to stimulate defecation, or injecting a small amount of saline into the artificial anus to cause defecation. Third, dietary regimen 1, the early postoperative patients, often have abdominal flatulence and pain, so the diet should not use flatulent food, such as pure sugar, sweet potatoes, soy flour, milk, soy milk, etc.. Sour plum soup, fresh orange juice, hawthorn juice, fruit juice, pineapple juice, noodle soup, fresh millet porridge, barley porridge, etc. can be used to help digestion and relieve pain. Postoperative patients are often averse to greasy food. In order to prevent destroying the patient’s appetite, it is advisable to have a light diet with less oil. 2.If diarrhea is frequent after surgery, first of all, pay attention to dietary hygiene and the temperature of food. Secondly, you should eat light and easily digestible food, and you can eat some astringent food to stop diarrhea, such as amaranth, yam, jujube, umeboshi, etc., and cooperate with medication, which can generally stop diarrhea and restore the function of normal bowel movement. If diarrhea leads to low blood potassium, attention should be paid to supplement foods containing more potassium, such as orange juice, kiwi, vegetable soup, celery, etc. 3, intraoperative, postoperative patients often have different degrees of blood loss. Attention should be paid to increase blood supplementation with foods rich in protein and high iron, such as pork liver, lean meat, poultry eggs, pigeon soup, carp, black fish soup, cinnamon, silver fungus, shiitake mushrooms, etc. Patients who still have a small amount of blood in the stool after surgery can consume foods with hemostatic and astringent effects, such as lotus root, lotus root, eggplant, fava beans, panax ginseng, etc. If a large amount of bleeding occurs, prompt medical attention is needed to take surgical treatment. 4, if postoperative patients have constipation, patients should be encouraged to eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, moderate increase in some foods containing more vegetable fats, such as sesame, walnuts, bananas, etc., appropriate increase in water intake, if the expected effect of defecation is not obtained, then a small amount of sesame oil can be taken with boiling water before bedtime or honey water on an empty stomach the next morning. Yogurt can also be consumed daily. Yogurt not only helps to restore the intestinal flora to normal, but also stimulates the taste buds, which can better relieve discomfort such as poor appetite or bloating. It should be noted that yogurt is best to be drunk after meals. Because most of the patients with intestinal cancer have weak spleen and stomach after surgery, and eating yogurt after meals will avoid too much stimulation of spleen and stomach. 5. For patients with “enterostomy”, in the early postoperative period, try to eat less or no garlic, onion, green garlic, leek, beans, beer, lamb and other foods that are easy to produce flatulence and bad smell. You can use Chinese herbal medicine, such as yam, coix seeds, white lentils, poria, mushrooms, etc. with rice porridge to help promote the timely recovery of the body and gastrointestinal function.
