Functional exercise after artificial total knee arthroplasty

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a highly successful procedure that aims to improve the quality of life of patients by relieving knee pain, correcting knee deformities, and improving functional status of the affected knee. Relative indications include: deformity, instability and loss of mobility. Conditions for which good results can be achieved with TKR include: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory joint diseases, traumatic arthritis, bone and cartilage necrosis, hemophilic arthropathy, and other conditions that cause functional impairment (e.g., tumors, fractures).
  (1) 1-3 days after surgery
  1. Continuous passive movement, 10 minutes of massage every 2 hours. In addition to restoring knee function, it also has the effect of pulling contracted tissues, avoiding adhesions, promoting blood circulation in the lower limbs, and preventing deep vein thrombosis and embolism. (Under the guidance of medical personnel by the escort to complete)
  Calf massage Thigh massage
Hold thigh flexion and knee activity (depending on the condition)
Flexion and extension of the ankle joint (alternating with lower limb massage)
2.Active training, muscle isometric stretching exercises, 10 strokes every 1 hour, each action lasts 10 seconds.
Upward hooking and downward stepping movements of the foot
Flexion of the healthy knee and full extension of the affected limb for bed press
  (2) 4-7 days after surgery, 5 to 10 strokes every 2 hours
Hold the thigh up and present a flexed knee movement
Turn on your side with the affected limb on top and do gravity-free knee flexion and extension
Lie on the side of the bed and suspend the affected calf under the edge of the bed
Press the foot and calf on the affected side on the ankle and do a downward pressure movement
Hook the able-bodied foot on the heel of the affected side, and assist the affected calf to do the upward movement
  (3) 8-14 days after surgery, insist on 5-7 seconds, practice 3-4 sets of 20 times per day
Straight leg raise Squatting exercises with the railing
One foot on the toe and one foot on the heel, alternating
Reasonable arrangements for walking on flat surfaces with a walker under the guidance of a health care provider
  Prone active knee flexion exercises
Lunge exercise Squatting exercise (need to be supported and protected)
  (4) 15-28 days after surgery
Unassisted ambulation exercises Kneeling knee compression exercises
Knee extension and compression exercises Stair climbing and descending exercises
  (5) 2 months after surgery
The above rehabilitation exercises will be continued until normal or near normal daily life is resumed after the outpatient radiographs are reviewed and there are no abnormalities. At this stage, you can start to engage in some more strenuous exercises such as swimming. After 3 months, normal life should be fully resumed.
