The severity of sudden blood in urine in women is assessed based on the cause of the triggering symptoms, as well as the underlying condition of the patient.
If the blood in urine is caused by minor trauma or a sports injury, it is not usually particularly serious.
If the blood in urine is caused by a bacterial infection, it can be cured with appropriate anti-infective treatment.
If the blood in urine is caused by cancer it may be more serious.
However, care needs to be taken to exclude pseudohaematuria due to contamination with menstrual blood.
