What to do when coughing season arrives for toddlers?

It’s the season for infectious diseases in young children. The weather is getting colder, hot and cold alternately, and the temperature difference between morning and evening is great, making young children prone to illness, especially “asthma”, “cough”, and “bronchitis”.
We have found some small remedies for “cough” to share with you.
There are two types of cough: external cough and internal cough, and external cough is divided into wind-cold cough and wind-heat cough. A simple way to differentiate here is to observe your child’s tongue moss.
If the tongue is white, the child has a wind-cold cough, which means that the child is cold and the cough has thin, white, sticky phlegm and a stuffy, runny nose, so you should eat warm, phlegm-relieving foods. If the child’s tongue is yellow and red, the child has a wind-heat cough, which means that the child’s internal heat is greater, and the cough has yellow, thick phlegm that is not easy to cough out, and a sore throat.
Internal cough is mostly a long, recurrent cough. Parents should then pay attention to giving their children foods that regulate the spleen and stomach, tonify the kidneys, and replenish lung qi as follows.
  1. Ginger + brown sugar + garlic
If your child has a cold, drinking warm ginger and brown sugar water can play a good therapeutic role. If your child also has a cough, add 2 to 3 cloves of garlic to the ginger and brown sugar water and cook it together, with a low fire for 10 minutes to cook off the spicy smell of garlic so that your child will drink it.
  2.Steamed garlic water
Take 2 to 3 cloves of garlic, pat it down, put it in a bowl, add half a bowl of water, put a grain of rock sugar, put the bowl with a lid into a pot and steam it for 15 minutes after boiling on high heat. When the garlic water in the bowl is warm, feed it to the child, and the garlic can not be eaten. Usually 2 to 3 times a day, a small half bowl at a time. Garlic is warm and enters the spleen, stomach and lung meridians, which is very effective in treating cold cough and kidney deficiency cough, and it is convenient and simple, and children are willing to drink it.
  3. Roasted oranges
Roast the oranges directly on a low fire and keep turning them until the peel is black and hot air comes out of them. When the orange cools a bit, peel off the skin and let the child eat the warm orange petals. If it is a large orange, the child can eat 2 to 3 cloves at a time, and if it is a small gonzo orange, the child can eat one at a time. It is best to eat them together with garlic water, 2 to 3 times a day. Oranges are warm in nature and have the effect of resolving phlegm and relieving cough. The amount of phlegm will be significantly reduced after eating roasted oranges, the cough suppressing effect is very obvious, and children are willing to eat.
4.Fried eggs with sesame oil and grated ginger
Put a small spoonful of sesame oil into a frying pan. When the oil is hot, add minced ginger, slightly pass it in the oil, and then beat 1 egg and scramble it well. When the child has a wind-cold cough and a weak cough, let the child eat once a night before bedtime while it is still hot, and insist on eating for a few days to receive obvious results.
  5, pear + pepper + rock sugar
A pear, wash, cut across and dig out the middle core, put 20 peppercorns, 2 grains of rock sugar, and then put the pear into a bowl, steam on the pot for about half an hour, a pear can be divided into two times to finish. Steamed pepper pear with rock sugar is very effective in treating wind-cold cough, but some children do not like the taste of pepper, so parents can choose their own.
While parents use these methods to treat wind-cold cough, they should also be aware that children should not eat the following cold foods: mung beans, crabs, mussels, snails, snails, persimmons, grapefruit, bananas, kiwis, sugar cane, watermelon, melon, bitter melon, water chestnuts, ciguatera, kelp, nori, raw radish, eggplant, rutabaga, lotus root, winter melon, loofah, and groundnuts.

This recipe has the effect of moistening the lungs, relieving cough and resolving phlegm. Since babies nowadays are generally greedy for cold, blowing on air conditioners when it’s hot, and eating cold fruits all year round, the number of babies suffering from wind-heat coughs has decreased significantly.
  2. Boil radish water

  C. Cough with internal injuries
Internal injury cough refers to long-term, recurrent chronic cough. Or a cough caused by a cold and fever, where the symptoms of the cold and fever have disappeared, but the cough never gets better. Babies with recurrent coughs have a poor appetite, no appetite and an almost white tongue due to the high use of anti-inflammatory drugs and cough medicines. Therefore, parents should first regulate the baby’s spleen and stomach to improve the baby’s health. Specific dietary treatments are as follows.
  1. All the dietary remedies for wind-cold cough are suitable for babies with internal cough.
  2. Yam porridge
Peel the yam, cut it into small pieces and put it into a food mill, then add half a bowl of water and process the yam into a thin paste. Then pour it into a pot and put it on the fire while stirring constantly and bring it to a boil. Babies are best served on an empty stomach, and a good bowl of yam porridge can be fed to babies in 2 to 3 servings. Yam strengthens the spleen and stomach, nourishes the lung, and benefits the kidney essence. This formula is most suitable for infants and young children, not only for coughing and asthma, but also for anorexia, excessive sweating, drooling, and weakness of qi and timidity in children. It is important to note that the yam decoction time should not be too long, otherwise the amylase contained in it will break down and lose its tonic effect.

Half a catty of walnuts, 2 taels of black sesame seeds, half a catty of red dates, crush them into a large bowl and mix well, then add 1 tablespoon of honey and 3 tablespoons of water (because honey is difficult to mix well, so you can first heat the honey and water on the fire). IV. Massage for pediatric cough
  1. Patting the back
Babies and toddlers do not spit, and even if they have coughed up phlegm, they will only swallow it down to their stomachs. Parents should pick up the baby when he or she is coughing and gently pat the baby’s back with an empty palm, up and down, left and right. If the baby coughs when a certain part is patted, it means that the baby’s phlegm is accumulating there and should be patted with emphasis. Most of the time, it is the area under the shoulder blades, which is the bottom of the lungs, where phlegm tends to accumulate. As long as there is stimulation of phlegm, the baby will cough, and once there is phlegm discharge, the cough can be temporarily relieved. Therefore, patting the back can play the role of broadening the chest and promoting the discharge of phlegm. It is best to pat the back when the baby is just waking up or just before going to sleep.
  2. For babies with wind-heat coughs, accompanied by sore throat and inflamed tonsils, you can use foot massage.
First, rub the baby’s feet up and down back and forth, 30 times per foot. Then massage each toe up and down 20 to 40 times. Focus on massaging both sides of the root of the big toe on the top of the foot, as long as the tonsils are inflamed, this area will be very painful, each foot massage for 5 minutes. After the massage, the baby’s sore throat symptoms will be significantly reduced.
After the massage, you should give your baby more warm water in time, you can also drink light salt boiled water. Insist on massaging your baby twice a day, and then with food therapy, your baby’s illness will heal quickly.
Five, pediatric cough attention to “raise”
As the saying goes, “three parts cure, seven parts nourish”, so we must pay attention to “nourish” in order to cure children’s cough.
  (1) Keep the air inside your home fresh. Dirty air can cause adverse stimulation to the respiratory mucosa, which can cause congestion, edema, abnormal secretion or aggravate coughing, and in severe cases can cause wheezing symptoms. Therefore, to keep the indoor air fresh, kitchen fumes should be discharged, parents should not be at home to swallow the smoke addiction. Windows should be opened regularly for ventilation.
  (2) Timely increase and decrease clothing many parents believe that children are certainly more afraid of cold than adults, they often do not distinguish between the seasons, regardless of indoor and outdoor, the child covered too thick, wrapped too tightly, not to let the child suffer a bit of cold, the result is the body’s poor regulatory capacity, low resistance.
  (3) Adjusting the room temperature Children with coughs are often accompanied by fever, and a high room temperature is not conducive to heat dissipation. Slightly colder and fresher air can make the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract contract, reducing congestion and swelling and keeping the airway open. But the temperature is too low, and will make too much nutrients digested and absorbed for oxidation to produce energy to maintain body temperature, weakening the ability to resist disease and affecting growth and development. The appropriate temperature is 25-28°C, called the neutral temperature. It is difficult to maintain this temperature under normal conditions, but it can be done so that the room temperature is not too high or too low. Proper opening and closing of doors and windows, avoiding crowding of people indoors, using electric fans, heaters or air conditioners are easy and simple measures.
  (4) Maintain proper humidity in the living room. When the environment is too dry and the air humidity drops, the mucous membrane becomes dry and brittle, the small blood vessels may break and bleed, the cilia movement is restricted, and the sputum is not easy to come out. When the respiratory organs have inflammation, the effect is more obvious. It is not difficult to maintain a certain humidity in the room. When the climate is dry, you can often mop the floor with a wet mop, or sprinkle some water on the floor.
  (5) Pay attention to dietary regulation as the saying goes, “Fish produces fire, meat produces phlegm, green vegetables and tofu keep safe”. Chinese medicine believes that fish, crab, shrimp and fatty meat and other meat, greasy food, may help dampness and phlegm, some may also cause allergic reactions, aggravating the condition. Spicy products such as chili, pepper and ginger stimulate the respiratory tract and aggravate the cough, so be careful to avoid them. Fresh vegetables such as green vegetables, carrots and tomatoes can supply a variety of vitamins and inorganic salts, which are beneficial to the recovery of the body’s metabolic function.
  (6) Ensure adequate sleep. During sleep, the muscles of the whole body relax, the response to external stimuli is reduced, and the activities of heartbeat, respiration and excretion are reduced, which is conducive to the recovery of various organ functions and the recovery of the disease. You should try to let your child rest in bed more often and ensure that he or she gets enough sleep to facilitate the recovery of the organism.
