How to prevent the occurrence of children with cleft lip and palate deformities?

This year’s summer vacation ended perfectly, as in previous years, there are many children in the wards every summer, this is the peak period for the treatment of children with congenital disease cleft lip and palate, the parents of the babies booked the summer surgery in order for them to go to school or kindergarten in the new school year like ordinary children; although the maternity checkups are getting more and more refined in the past few years, it still happens from time to time that babies with cleft palate are born, which is regrettable. I would like to give some tips on the causes of cleft lip and palate, and to actively prevent it during pregnancy preparation and during pregnancy to have a healthy and lovely baby.

Cleft palate is more common among neonatal malformations and can occur alone or in combination with cleft lip. Cleft palate not only has soft tissue deformities, but most patients with cleft palate may also have varying degrees of bone defects and deformities, which are far more serious than cleft lip in terms of physical dysfunction such as sucking, eating and speech. The growth and developmental disorders of the jaws also often lead to a collapsed midface and, in severe cases, a disc-shaped face with a misaligned bite (often antimandibular or open jaw). Therefore, the multiple physiological dysfunctions caused by cleft palate deformities, especially speech dysfunction and dental malocclusion, adversely affect the patient’s daily life, study and work, and also easily cause psychological disorders.

The cause of cleft palate is not fully understood, but it is thought to be related to nutritional deficiencies in food during pregnancy, endocrine abnormalities, viral infections and genetic factors. As a congenital developmental defect, cleft palate changes with age as the deformity grows and develops, including the physical developmental defects present in the deformity itself, secondary changes in jaw and facial appearance due to surgical trauma, functional disorders such as speech and hearing, and psychological disorders that develop in patients during social interactions.

To prevent the occurrence of cleft palate, a number of preventive health measures need to be taken. During pregnancy, pregnant women should avoid partial diet, ensure adequate intake of vitamins B, C, D and calcium, iron and phosphorus, keep a calm state of mind, avoid mental tension, refrain from taking antitumor drugs, anticonvulsants, histamines, keminine for pregnancy vomiting and certain sleeping pills, refrain from smoking and alcohol abuse, and avoid exposure to the invisible hazards of radiation and microwaves.

Not long ago it was rumored that cell phone radiation can also lead to malformed fetuses, but to be exact: there is no way to prove it, so there is no need to worry too much.
