According to CNN, the World Health Organization announced on Tuesday that cell phone use increases the risk of cancer. The agency has now placed cell phone use in the “carcinogenic hazard” category, along with lead use, car exhaust and chloroform use. The statement was made by a research team of 31 scientists from 14 countries after reviewing similar studies on cell phone safety. The team found that cell phone users have an increased chance of developing brain cancers such as glioma and auditory neuroma, while other types of cancer are still inconclusive. Keith Black, chief of neurology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said the radiation emitted from cell phones is called non-ionizing (non-ionizing) radiation. Unlike X-rays, it is more like a low-power microwave oven. As the microwave oven heats food, non-ionizing rays are heating people’s brains. In addition to causing cancer and tumors, cell phone radiation can also affect cognitive memory functions because of the proximity of the temporal lobe of the brain where people hold their phones. European environmental agencies have also recently conducted numerous studies that say cell phone use has caused significant public health risks. Although it takes a long time for cancer to develop, long-term exposure to cell phone radiation is likely to increase the chances of developing cancer. A national study published in 2010 showed that people who used cell phones for more than 10 years were twice as likely as normal to develop glioma. No long-term research trials have been conducted on the effects of cell phones on children. But Keith Black says children’s skulls and scalps are relatively thin, and cell phone radiation may affect deeper areas of their brains. Media Voice: The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organization said that long-term use of cell phones “may cause cancer”, the Washington-based Wireless Communications Industry International Association issued a statement questioning. It also said that the IARC has in the past also considered that pickled vegetables and coffee, etc. may also cause cancer. The statement pointed out that the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have made it clear that there is no scientific evidence that the use of cell phones may cause cancer.
