Bone rubbing sound is a characteristic sign of a fracture. It is a sound produced by the bone hitting against the bone after a fracture because the broken end has been displaced. The presence of a bone rubbing sound indicates a fracture. Conservative treatment involves fixing the fractured limb with external fixation, and the bone rubbing sound disappears after the bone fibers are connected, which takes about one month. In surgical treatment, the fracture is fixed with internal fixation and the bone rubbing sound disappears after the plate fixation. In case of intramedullary nail fixation, the bone rubbing sound will also occur because of the micro-movement of the fracture end, but it will not affect the fracture healing, and the bone rubbing sound will disappear after 1 month of intramedullary nail fixation. As long as the bone rubbing sound disappears, it means the fracture is stable.
