How to rehabilitate and exercise after fracture, when to exercise, what degree to exercise, today we discuss the issue of postoperative rehabilitation of patella fracture.
First of all, after the patient returns to the ward, the affected limb should be padded with a soft pillow under the knee and elevated for 48 hours to promote blood return, and also cold compresses can be applied for 10 to 15 minutes every 1 to 2 hours to reduce local congestion, while the elastic bandage should be observed for its tightness.
Quadriceps isometric contraction exercises After the pain is slightly reduced, you can start to practice quadriceps isometric contraction, no less than 20 times per hour. This will prevent adhesions, atrophy and weakness of the quadriceps, and lay a good foundation for walking on the ground. After total patellar resection, the force arm of quadriceps knee extension is shortened, resulting in weak knee extension and easy fatigue, which should be performed 4 weeks after surgery.
Passive patellar activities Push the patella to the left and right sides every day to prevent adhesions between the patella and the joint surface, and the patient should push himself at any time when sitting up.
Straight leg raising exercises Practice leg raising exercises after the soft tissue repair of the knee has healed. After the stitches are removed, if there is no local swelling and no fluid accumulation, the patient can go down with a cast brace to support the crutches, without weight bearing on the affected limb.
After the external fixation is removed after 4-6 weeks, the knee flexion and extension activities can be practiced. At the beginning, if there is difficulty in flexion and extension, external exercises should be used, such as leg presses, squats, and weight-bearing knee extensions. Generally speaking, due to the long period of immobilization, the knee joint has different degrees of dysfunction and should be exercised in a variety of ways, such as a combination of active and passive, in-bed and out-of-bed, and instrumented and non-instrumented exercise methods. The knee should be flexed first with the help of others and then changed to active activities after a certain degree of mobility.
