Today an elderly male patient was seen in the outpatient clinic with a registration slip stating blood pressure of 185/107 mmHg. Upon entering and sitting down, he asked, “Where do you feel uncomfortable?” “Doctor, my blood pressure is high.” Su Qiaozhen, Department of Brain Diseases, Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine “Do you have any discomfort?” “Doctor, my blood pressure is so high, please prescribe me some antihypertensive medicine first to help me lower my blood pressure.” “Do you usually have high blood pressure?” “I have been hypertensive for many years, and I insist on taking antihypertensive drugs, and my blood pressure has always been well controlled, but today when I woke up, I felt dizzy, unstable walking, and seeing things spinning, and after resting for a while, seeing things did not spin, but I still felt unstable walking.” After careful examination, the patient was advised to have a cranial CT examination and reported: cerebral infarction. He was admitted to hospital for treatment. In life, many patients and friends usually do not have high blood pressure or their blood pressure is smoothly controlled after taking antihypertensive drugs, if there is a sudden increase in blood pressure, it is likely to be triggered by some reasons, such as emotional excitement. This ischemia may be in the brain, the heart, the kidneys, or, of course, other parts of the body. At this point, what we need to find is the cause of the sudden increase in blood pressure, and treat the cause so that the blood pressure will naturally drop to its original level. At this point, if we rashly use drugs to lower blood pressure, it may lead to more ischemia in the ischemic tissues and aggravate the condition. Therefore, I would like to remind all friends that if there is a sudden rise in blood pressure, you must seek a doctor in a timely manner, do not take antihypertensive drugs at home by yourself, which may turn out to be a mistake.
