Can recurring scars become cancerous?

Patient: I was after 18 years old. I don’t know what caused a lot of scars on my front chest and behind my shoulders, but in previous years, I went through freezing at several famous local hospitals. In the past few years, I went through freezing, sealing and other medication and took a lot of Chinese herbal medicine. In the end, not only did they not get smaller, but they got bigger and bigger. In particular, the ones in front of the chest grew large and often became pus-filled, which was especially painful. In August 2007, I went to your clinic for laboratory tests. You said at the time that you could observe it for a while. Or I could have it treated with surgery. Now, one year has passed, but the situation has not improved. Is there a possibility of cancer? What is the best treatment? Wang Xiaojun: Although keloid is a kind of skin tumor, it is benign. It is characterized by the secretion of a large amount of collagen by scar fibroblasts, apoptosis and disturbance of collagen metabolism, which results in transitional hyperplasia of the scar and infiltration into the surrounding normal tissue. For single keloid scars we currently use surgical excision with adjuvant radiotherapy within 24 hours of surgery. However, multiple keloid scars, especially in patients who are constantly generating new keloid scars, are more difficult to treat. We are currently conducting a comparative clinical study on the related pharmacological treatment of keloids and radiotherapy, hoping to replace post-surgical radiotherapy with pharmacological treatment. The goal is to reduce the cost of scar treatment, especially in multiple keloids where the cost of radiotherapy is high and unaffordable for some patients. It is important to treat keloid scars as soon as possible because of the possibility of keloid cancer, although its incidence is very low, it should not be ignored. Patient: I have a (10 x 4) cm septic keloid on my chest. What is the approximate cost for surgical treatment if I go to your office? Wang Xiaojun: It is about 15,000 RMB. It requires skin grafting and will be treated with radiotherapy. Hospital stay is about 15 days. Patient: We are from Chongqing. If I come to Beijing for treatment, what is the best season or time? Wang Xiaojun: The best time to come to Beijing for treatment is in the fall. About one month hospitalization.
