How do lipomas form and how to get rid of them

Lipoma is a tumor of fat-like tissue, which is a benign tumor and can occur in all parts of the body, such as back, neck, abdominal wall, thighs, etc. The exact cause of its formation is still unclear, but it is mainly thought to be related to genetics, chronic inflammation, abnormal lipid metabolism in the body and other factors. If the size of tumor is small and there is no pain and other uncomfortable symptoms, usually no removal or special treatment is necessary, regular review and close observation of tumor condition is sufficient. If the tumor is large in size, or if the possibility of malignant transformation is clear after diagnosis, it can be removed by surgery or other means. If the patient’s lipoma is superficially located, most of them can be cured by local excision. If it is located deeper, with irregular shape such as dumbbell or sandbell shape, and the volume is more than 5cm, it needs to be removed by surgery. Especially for lipomas larger than 10 cm in diameter, extra attention should be paid to whether malignancy has occurred and liposarcoma has been formed. Liposarcoma is easy to be removed and then recur, and the number of surgeries is directly proportional to the degree of malignancy. Patients are advised to maintain a good mood, take rest, exercise appropriately, and eat a balanced diet, with lightness and low cholesterol as the main principles. It is more appropriate to eat fresh vegetables and fruits, such as celery, spinach, apples, kiwi, grapefruit, oranges, etc.
