The early presentation of novel coronavirus pneumonia in children is nonspecific and may include vomiting, poor appetite, poor spirits, mild cough, nasal congestion, and runny nose. Some cases in children and newborns may have atypical symptoms, showing gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea or only weakness and shortness of breath. Some patients present with fever and cough, and a few have a stuffy, runny nose and wheezing. In severe patients, symptoms include shortness of breath, increased respiratory rhythm (except for the effects of fever and crying), moaning, nasal agitation, trismus sign, cyanosis, intermittent apnea, lethargy, convulsions, refusal to eat or feeding difficulties, and signs of dehydration. The overall symptoms in pediatric patients are not as typical as in adults and the symptoms are relatively milder.
