Sperm morphological examination

Sperm morphology is an important indicator of male fertility. 200 sperm are counted under a light microscope after sperm staining. According to the WHO 5th edition standard, a normal sperm rate greater than 4% is considered normal. However, if only the sperm deformity rate is considered, different research institutions give different standards. Generally speaking, if the percentage of deformed sperm in normal semen is higher than 50%, it is called high malformation rate sperm and can cause infertility. When the percentage of malformed sperm exceeds 70%, chromosomal examination should be performed and treatment is more difficult if chromosomal disease is present. The following causes can lead to high malformation rate sperm 1, genitourinary tract infection (such as prostatitis, epididymal tuberculosis, seminal vesiculitis, urethritis, etc.); 2, testicular inflammation complicated by mumps; 3, varicocele; 4, inevitable use of hormones or certain chemical drugs in life, all of which can cause sperm immaturity and malformation; 5, radiation exposure of the gonads, which can cause mutation of sperm; 6. Long-term local hyperthermia of the scrotum and long-term alcohol abuse can cause sperm mutation, etc.
