Can a brain attack turn you into a vegetable?

Brain attacks have the potential to become vegetative. Brain infarction can be categorized into small and large brain infarction. Large cerebral infarction or cerebral infarction located in important parts of the brain may cause the patient to lose consciousness and enter a vegetative state.
1. Small cerebral infarction: small cerebral blood vessels are blocked, resulting in ischemia, edema, necrosis and formation of foci of brain tissues in the area supplied by the blood vessels. It can be manifested as headache and dizziness, slurred speech, crooked mouth, numbness and stiffness of limbs. If treatment is carried out within the window of onset, most of them can be cured.
2. Large cerebral infarction: If there is a large cerebral infarction or ischemic injury in the brainstem area, the neurological function is seriously impaired, and there may be confusion, loss of dominance of the brain function, loss of consciousness, and thus enter into a vegetative state.
Patients with cerebral infarction should be detected and treated early. Patients with primary diseases such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia should actively control the primary diseases. In daily life, we should pay attention to light diet, avoid high salt and high fat food, quit smoking and drinking, and strictly follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment and medication, so as to avoid adverse consequences.
