Most lumbar spinal stenosis is caused by aging degeneration or strain of the lumbar spine (1) Extensive bulging discs. (2) Lumbar spine joint osteophytes, joint protrusion and coalescence. (3) Hyperplasia and hypertrophy of the ligamentum flavum. (4) Lumbar spine instability, lumbar spine slippage, etc. Causes lumbar spinal stenosis, nerve compression and causes the patient to have symptoms of lumbar pain. Non-surgical treatment cannot release the compression, and it is difficult to effectively relieve the symptoms, so surgical treatment is often required. The purpose of surgery is to relieve the compression, improve the symptoms and enhance the quality of life. Imaging changes alone should never be used as an indication for surgery, and symptoms and signs should be consistent with imaging findings. Early surgery should be considered in the following cases: (1) Back and leg pain after activity seriously affects daily work and does not heal with conservative treatment. (2) Progressive claudication is aggravated, or standing time is gradually shortened. (3) Those who have obvious deficits in nerve function. For example: persistent constipation, loss of control of urination or frequent urination, numbness and weakness of lower limbs, etc.
