In the long history of Chinese medicine, “acupuncture stone” is undoubtedly the earliest acupuncture apparatus, and blood pricking therapy is the earliest method of healing. Throughout the ages, from the ancient period of “acupuncture stone”, to the Neolithic era “nine needles” of the sharp needle, blood pricking therapy is like a beautiful and unique flower in the garden of Chinese medicine. The author has been engaged in acupuncture and moxibustion clinical practice for 28 years, and is deeply impressed by the blood pricking therapy in acupuncture medicine. In some difficult and miscellaneous diseases, it has a quick and even destructive power.
Trigeminal needle pricking blood, there are different pricking small veins (or capillaries), pricking acupuncture points, pricking local lesions, briefly described as follows.
Stabbing the small veins is used in cases of prolonged blood stasis, hot toxins and deep blood stasis. Depending on the disease, the prerequisite is to select the acupuncture point and find a suitable small vein branch near the acupuncture point. The depth of needling is determined by the depth of the vein (about 1-3 mm). When needling, the needle should be held quickly and accurately in the direction of the proximal end of the vein diagonally, then pull out the needle, so that the blood flows out in the same way, and when the bleeding becomes deeper and lighter or stops naturally, add fire cupping to promote the elimination of the remaining blood. The amount of bleeding is usually larger when stabbing a small vein, and the amount of bleeding can be artificially controlled according to the condition of a single stabbing site, which is mostly 5-20 ml. If stabbing multiple sites in a day, the cumulative bleeding volume should not exceed 100 ml. If the stabbing volume is greater than 50 ml, appropriate Chinese medicine to benefit qi and nourish blood should be taken for 1-2 days.
Stabbing acupuncture points are used for internal fire toxicity or upward attack, or cold and dampness stay, or Qi stagnation and blood stasis, and the patient may be accompanied by disorders of the internal organs of the body. The general choice of acupuncture points 5-8, the depth of acupuncture about 2-4mm, immediately after the needle plus cupping, each point bleeding amount in 1-5ml, the stabbing method pay attention to the overall identification, pay attention to the combination of acupuncture points.
Stabbing the lesion locally, usually called scattered stabbing, centered on a certain point, multiple shallow stabbing, scattered but not chaotic Also used for fire, cold and dampness, blood disease, but the lesion is more limited, such as facial acne, lumbosacral cold and dampness, foot and ankle sprains, etc., the patient generally does not have systemic symptoms. Depending on the size of the lesion, multiple needles can be quickly scattered, with a depth of about 1 to 3 mm and a bleeding volume of about 5 ml-20 ml. The face can be replaced by plum blossom needles or intramuscular injection needles.
The above three methods can be divided or combined and applied flexibly.
The treatment of miscellaneous internal diseases by blood pricking therapy
1.Coronary heart disease with cold clotting and blood stasis (stabbing small veins)
Coronary heart disease is an organic lesion of the heart caused by coronary artery sclerosis, which belongs to the category of “chest paralysis”, “palpitation” and “heart pain” in Chinese medicine. They are also poorly controlled by western medicine. The manifestations are cold pain and stuffiness in the heart and chest, palpitation and shortness of breath, insomnia and early awakening, and cold extremities. According to Chinese medicine, this is because the Yang in the chest is suppressed and the blood is stagnant with cold, so the cold should be directed to the stasis in order to invigorate the Yang in the heart. Blood pricking therapy is the most effective way to remove cold and eliminate stasis, and with the addition of moxibustion, both the symptoms and the root cause can be treated.
Typical case: Lin Moumou, female, 54 years old, cadre, coronary heart disease for many years, poorly controlled by medication, aggravated by menopausal symptoms in recent years, frequent chest tightness and tingling, chest and back cold, palpitations and panic, blue lips, petechiae on the tongue, varicose veins under the tongue, sunken pulse. She had been treated in several hospitals and outpatient clinics without success. The blood cupping was performed on the veins near the Tanzhong (visible blue veins), Juqui, Juyin Yu, and Quze points, and the bleeding from the Tanzhong point was dark, about 30 ml. After starting the cupping, the chest pain subsided and I felt refreshed. A week later, the bleeding decreased and the condition improved significantly, so he changed to lightly stabbing the above acupuncture points for 6 times, and moxibustion of Baihui, Tanzhong, Juque, Qihai and Neiguan to warm up the qi and blood, and was finally cured.
2. Stubborn hypertension of the liver fire type (stabbing points)
Primary hypertension is a common condition associated with genetics and caused by a combination of pathogenic factors resulting in persistent elevated arterial blood pressure. It is difficult to treat in some cases where the liver fire is overpowering and the liver yang is hyperactive. This type presents with headache and dizziness, redness of the face and eyes, irritability, and a red tongue with yellow fur. According to Chinese medicine, Yin deficiency and Yang hyperactivity, wind and fire should be cleared and the fire should be induced to return to the source in order to balance Yin and Yang in the body. Blood pricking can directly relieve fire and heat, which is faster than conventional acupuncture.
Typical case: Liu XX, male, 58 years old, hypertensive for more than 10 years, blood pressure fluctuates from 180 to 160/100 to 120 mmHg, headache and dizziness, chest and hypochondriacal pain, red and red face, red tongue with yellow and dry coating, and string veins, poorly controlled by various antihypertensive drugs. The patient was treated with Baihui, which could not be cupped after blood pricking, and squeezed blood to help bleeding; Dazhi, Quze, and Liver Yu, which were cupped after blood pricking; and the ear points Zhongxian and Hepi Yang, which were pricked and swabbed with alcohol cotton balls to promote bleeding. The patient’s symptoms disappeared, blood pressure dropped steadily until normal, and the antihypertensive drug was gradually reduced to the minimum maintenance amount, which has been stable since then.
3.Refractory facial palsy (stabbing acupuncture points and localized lesions)
Peripheral facial palsy is mostly caused by cold stimulation, autonomic nerve disorder or viral infection, and is divided into two cases of wind-cold and wind-heat in Chinese medicine. Early mild to moderate facial palsy will recover quickly if treated according to the different identification of cold and hot evidence. If severe facial palsy or early treatment is not appropriate, it will evolve into refractory facial palsy. Some patients with refractory facial palsy manifest qi stagnation and blood stasis, or qi deficiency and blood stasis, or prolonged illness with stasis, all of which can be treated by pricking the blood.
Typical case: Li XX, male, 54 years old, police officer, with facial palsy for 4 months. Western medicine and acupuncture treatment were basically ineffective, and he still had moderate to severe facial palsy, with a history of hyperlipidemia and hyperviscosity. His face is sallow, with obvious age spots and a dull purple tongue. Selected Yin Tang, Yang Bai, Sun, zygomatic s, Di Cang, lifting and pinching up the skin, rapid scattering pricking, about 3-5 needles around each point, visible bean-like dark black bleeding, wipe with alcohol cotton ball to help bleeding, then add fire cupping, bleeding more than 10ml per jar, twice a week, after January facial palsy recovery up to 85%, facial color turned better, and then regular acupuncture for two weeks was cured.
4.Yangming fire type trigeminal neuralgia (acupuncture points and localized lesions)
Trigeminal neuralgia is very difficult to treat because the cause is unknown. In Chinese medicine, it is divided into several types: wind-heat, wind-cold and qi-stagnation and blood-stasis, and the wind-heat and qi-stagnation and blood-stasis types are suitable for stabbing blood.
Typical case: Yin XX, female, 65 years old, sudden onset of right trigeminal neuralgia for several months, dark red burning in the right cheek, small veins faintly visible, accompanied by lacrimation, unable to brush teeth and chew. She took carbamazepine 6 capsules daily and had dizziness and headache as side effects. He was suffering from dizziness and headache as a side effect. He used a No. 5 injection needle to puncture the Sun, Zanzhu, Sibai, Zygomatic s, Shimonoseki, Dicang and the surrounding small veins in turn, and spot bleeding was visible. The blood is dark red and thick, and is cured twice a week for 9 times.
5.Sciatica with Qi stagnation and blood stasis plus cold and dampness (stabbing small veins)
Sciatica is mostly caused by lumbar disc herniation. Generally, acupuncture has good effect, but it is difficult to achieve short-term effect for those with heavy cold-dampness and blood stasis. The use of blood pricking to invigorate blood and remove blood stasis and dispel cold and dampness is also effective.
Typical case: Chang XX, female, 60 years old, retired worker, suffered from lumbar intervertebral disc herniation for many years, with alternating episodes of bilateral sciatica, dominated by distension and pain, aversion to cold and warmth, and extensive dilatation of veins in both lower limbs. The veins near the painful side of the point were bleeding about 50 ml, and the veins near the remaining points were punctured in turn, bleeding a total of about 100 ml, and the right lower limb was immediately comfortable.
Blood pricking for gynecological diseases
Acupuncture has the function of unblocking the Chong and Ren veins, moistening the uterus, helping to nourish the qi and blood, and warming the lower yuan, which has a special therapeutic effect on the regulation of women’s menstruation, belt, fetus and breast. Blood is the mainstay of gynecological diseases, so it is very effective in treating dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, uterine fibroids and infertility caused by Qi stagnation and blood stasis, as well as cold stagnation.
1, infertility (stabbing acupuncture points)

Blood pricking treatment for bone and joint diseases
1.Knee joint synovitis with effusion
Typical case: Xiang xx, female, 49 years old, cadre, the patient had synovitis of the right knee joint with effusion for one year, and had joint cavity injection and various methods of treatment were ineffective. She had a limp, enlargement of the right knee joint, slight heat, painful and non-touchable, difficulty in flexion and extension, dull tongue with petechiae, white greasy moss, and slippery pulse. There were obvious cyanotic-purple slightly thick veins near Guizhong, Weiyang, Foot Sanli and Fenglong. 2, cold coagulation and blood stasis type arthritis (stabbing lesion local)
Typical case: Lu XX, male, 54 years old, fisherman, engaged in pond fish farming for many years, every year before the Spring Festival, the cold caused cold pain in the lumbosacral and sacroiliac joints, unable to flex and extend, year after year, it is difficult to be healed, take the lumbar Yangguan, 17 vertebrae, eight s points and Ah Yes point, more than 20 needles, plus cupping, bleeding purple dark amount, take the cupping and then cupping, even cupping four times, until the appearance of light yellow liquid. Blood pricking for ENT, stomatology and dermatology
1. Sudden deafness (pricking acupuncture points)

3, lower limb neurodermatitis (stabbing points, stabbing local)
Ge Moumou, male, 68 years old, suffered from neurodermatitis of the lower limbs for decades. Experiences
(1) Our ancestors, is very important to prick the blood treatment, even the ancient sprout of Chinese medicine surgery. Chinese medicine classic “Huangdi Nei Jing” in the “Ling Shu – nine needles 12 original” said: “full then diarrhea, Wan Chen is removed.” Su Wen – blood and gas shape and spirit chapter said: “All treatment of disease must first remove its blood.” In the author’s opinion: the choice of blood pricking therapy is very suitable for the treatment of cold clotting and blood stasis evidence, Qi stagnation and blood stasis evidence, and actual heat evidence. All kinds of Qi stagnation and blood stasis, cold stagnation and blood stasis, tendon and bone pain evidence of cold dampness holding stasis, cold stagnation and blood stasis of coronary heart disease angina pectoris, stomach pain and other miscellaneous diseases of internal medicine are also quite common, not pass is pain, pass what method is more powerful than pricking blood? There are also many clinical applications of stubborn real heat, such as trigeminal neuralgia due to Yangming fire, sudden deafness due to liver and gallbladder fire, and refractory hypertension due to hyperactivity of liver and Yang. The effect of the blood prick of the trigeminal needle to invigorate blood and relieve pain, dispel cold and eliminate stasis, and calm the liver and subdue Yang is obvious.
(2) “Ling Shu – miscellaneous diseases” chapter said: needling bleeding, “see the blood immediately has”, that is: acupuncture treatment of disease stabbing bleeding, the disease is immediately alleviated. The author applied the characteristics of blood stabbing therapy, whether stabbing the ligament, stabbing acupuncture points, or stabbing local Sunluo, bleeding are allowed to flow naturally, plus cupping, more conducive to the elimination of blood stasis. The use of trigeminal needles to prick the blood, fast and direct, than the needles to apply the diarrhea method, the patient more easily accepted, because “see the blood immediately has been”, the curative effect is also more prominent, there is indeed an immediate effect.
