How long a fracture needs to be immobilized depends largely on how well the patient’s fracture is healing and needs to be immobilized until there is scab growth at the fracture site and the broken end of the fracture is relatively stable. In this time frame, if the patient’s fracture heals relatively well, it may take about 45 days. However, fracture healing can be affected by many factors, such as the age of the patient and the patient’s physical condition, as well as the severity of the fracture injury at the time and the subsequent treatment. Therefore, to be safe and secure, the time of fixation is recommended to be decided based on the review of the radiographs. As long as the radiographs indicate significant scab growth, fixation is not required. At the same time, patients are advised to resume normal functional exercise as soon as possible.
