New treatment option for distal radius fractures – movable external fixation brace

Fractures of the distal radius are very common, and surgical treatment is required for failed manipulation or cumulative articular surface fractures, and the traditional surgical method of internal fixation with an incisional repositioning plate and screw is most commonly used. However, it has the disadvantages of stimulation of the internal fixation and the need for secondary surgery to remove the internal fixation, resulting in a long treatment period and the need for reoperation. The external fixation brace was used for distal radius fracture at an early stage, which has the advantages of simple operation, effective fixation, and no need for secondary surgery to take internal fixation, but the domestic external fixation brace is fixed and cannot be used for early functional exercise of the wrist joint, which may cause postoperative joint stiffness. The author has been engaged in upper limb surgery for more than 10 years, and has adopted the latest European movable transverse wrist external fixation brace to treat distal radius fracture, which can securely fix the fracture while allowing early wrist movement by using the clever design of the brace, and the removal of the brace is simple, safe and painless without secondary surgery. Zhou Hammer, Department of Hand and Microsurgery, Peking University Shenzhen Hospital, Beijing, China, instructed the patient to perform early functional exercises of wrist flexion and extension, and the picture below shows wrist flexion and extension activities.
