  Ulcerative colitis is a lesion of unknown origin that is dominated by nonspecific inflammation and ulcer formation in the mucosa of the rectum and colon. The main clinical symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, urgency, and mucopurulent stools. The course of the disease is prolonged and often recurrent. In terms of treatment, western medicine is still using aminosalicylates (representative drugs are mesalazine: Addisha, Podesan, Sarf, etc.), glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants as the main drugs for the treatment of the disease, which have the advantages of fast onset of action and high rate of recent clinical remission, but they are prone to relapse after stopping, and the side effects of long-term medication increase, and the efficacy of some recalcitrant patients is not satisfactory. Chinese medicine is a characteristic of China, and the combination of Chinese and Western medicine also has certain advantages in the treatment of ulcerative colitis, which has been widely used clinically, among which Chinese medicine retention enema treatment of ulcerative colitis is more effective, applicable to all stages of ulcerative colitis, from the clinical point of view, the best efficacy in the acute exacerbation. The following is introduced.  Enema prescription drug composition: Diyu 15g, Qing Dai 5g, Andrographis paniculata 15g, Bitter ginseng 15g, Wu Mei 10g, Licorice 10g. method: Decoct the above herbs into a juice of 100-200mL, twice a dose. Enema 1-2 times a day according to the situation. The course of treatment is 15-30 days. Keep the temperature of the enema solution at 30℃~40℃, ask the patient to empty the stool, choose the infusion device as the anal canal, lubricate it with paraffin oil, put the decoction into the saline bottle at the same time, ask the patient to take the left side lying position, raise the buttocks 10cm, try to brace the anus with the fingers, and choose the depth of the anal canal according to the different parts of the lesion. If it is left hemicolectomy or total colonic ulcer, insert the anal tube to a depth of 20-25cm, drip in slowly, rest for 2min after irrigation and then lie flat, then choose the knee-chest position and right lateral position for 2min each to promote the drug to enter the colon, try to make the drug retained long enough to give full play to the effect of the drug, so as to achieve the purpose of treatment. The method can also be performed simultaneously with oral medication. Attention should be paid to eliminating the patient’s ideological concerns, while a neat, quiet and comfortable environment should be provided, doors and windows should be closed, the room temperature should be maintained at 18℃~20℃, and the patient’s limbs should be exposed as little as possible to prevent catching cold. First, patients with ulcerative colitis should maintain an optimistic mood during treatment, not all ulcerative colitis can become cancerous, and appropriately reduce various stresses, as mental depression and anxiety states may be relevant to the occurrence and recurrence of the disease. Second, should ensure the intake of nutrition, it is advisable to use high-calorie, moderate protein, vitamin-rich, low-fiber easy-to-digest food, a small number of meals, avoid raw, cold, spicy, gas-producing stimulating food, and as far as possible to avoid food that can cause patients to metabolic reactions.  This method allows the drug enema to reach the disease directly, which is more effective and less likely to recur, and can reduce gastrointestinal side effects; the method is simple and can be performed at home, and is also inexpensive. As long as the above method of treatment, the condition can generally be alleviated and cured.
